2027 French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme

The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme offers 10 months fellowships at the seven Institutes of Aix-Marseille, Cergy, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes and Paris. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars and scientists to develop their innovative research projects in France.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  1. FIAS awards fellowships to outstanding researchers of all career levels, from postdoctoral researchers to senior scientists. The minimum requirement is a PhD + 2 years of research experience at the time of the application (PhD training period will not be considered in the calculation of experience). 
  2. Researchers from all countries are eligible to the FIAS Fellowship Programme but they must have spent no more than 12 months in France during the three years prior to the application deadline.
  3. PhD training is not considered in the calculation of full-time research experience years. You must have been affiliated with/working for a higher education/research institution.
  4. At the time of the application deadline, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date (short stays such as holidays and/or compulsory national service are not taken into account).

BENEFITS

  1. A net living allowance (equivalent to take-home pay) of €2,200 per month: It will be delivered to all fellows in the context of a work/fixed-amount contract. Arrangements will be based on the fellow’s individual situation and interest, depending on the contractual option chosen. This modulated approach will guarantee equal treatment to all fellows and full protection. French labour legislation and all insurance obligations will be strictly enforced. 
  2. Accommodation or support for relocation is also provided for successful applicants. FIAS will provide fellows with accommodation suitable for their family situation (from studios to 5-room apartments). All the successful applicants will benefit from the support of the FIAS Programme officer and IAS administrative staff for arrangements relating to work contracts and other administrative, professional, social and logistical issues (e.g. negotiating academic leave, finding accommodation, etc.).

TIMELINE

  • June 25, 2026, 6:00 pm (Paris, France time): Deadline for applications
  • July 2026: Eligibility check
  • August-November 2026: Double peer review process
  • December 2026: Pre-selection by the FIAS Selection Committee
  • January – February 2027: Selection of fellows by IAS Scientific Advisory Boards
  • March 2027: Communication of results
