The GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub offers a postdoctoral research opportunity to a candidate who has been awarded, or is nearing completion of, a doctoral degree. The Research Officer will conduct field and research activities, including the collection of individual and household survey data in Ethiopia and Kenya, to support a programme of research on household decision-making around water issues under the direction of the PI, Dr Cheryl Doss. They will collaborate and publish with other team members, and undertake other tasks as directed.

The postholder will be based in the Oxford Department of International Development and have the opportunity both to engage with GCRF Hub team, the REACH team and the large community of development economists at the Centre of the Study of African Economies and in the broader Oxford community. Outside the University, researchers will work directly with teams of collaborators working on the GCRF Hub in Ethiopia and the REACH project in both Ethiopia and Kenya. The post is full-time, for 3 years.

ELIGIBILITY

1. You will hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in in economics, applied economics, public policy, quantitative development studies, or a related field.

2. You will have experience of, and an interest in, research in household decision-making, which has the potential to have an impact on policy and practice.

3. You will have the ability to carry out independent quantitative research, including strong writing and IT skills, including the use of Stata and excellent skills in statistics/econometrics.

4. You will have the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities and to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation.

5. You will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially those necessary to communicate effectively to relevant academic and non-academic audiences using a range of media.

6. Finally, you will have previous experience in designing and conducting household surveys in developing countries and the ability to innovate and work effectively with colleagues, both in Oxford and in the field.

Grade 7: Salary in the range £32,817 – £33,797 p.a.
