2019 British Ecological Society Digital Engagement Internship
Deadline: July 18, 2019.
Reporting to the Education and Engagement Manager, the Digital Engagement Intern will be tasked with developing and delivering digital content linked to the Society’s ‘Incredible Creatures’ photography exhibition at New Scientist Live (October 10 – 13th2019).
Primary tasks will include social media communications, and the coordination and production of engaging, narrative-led science communication content for digital platforms. The exact content produced can be adapted to suit the applicant’s skillset, but desired content includes social-media orientated videos, audio, infographics, as well as written blogs and photo-led articles.
ELIGIBILITY
1. You’re an enthusiastic candidate with strong communication skills, and experience in social media and digital content production. You have an interest in communicating science to the public in engaging formats.
2. You will be educated to degree level or with equivalent experience in digital production or communications, with the ability to communicate complex information with a wide range of audiences in accessible and engaging ways. You will have a creative mind, and demonstrable experience of producing engaging digital content and communicating with the public via social media.
3. Experience using social media, video/audio production, graphic design and similar software is essential. Experience in and interest in nature and ecology is beneficial, but not essential.
REQUIRED SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in digital communications or digital content production. This can include a relevant degree, employment position, or independent work.
- Demonstrable experience in social media use and content management
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of communicating complex information to diverse public audiences
- Ability to develop high quality digital content (e.g. written, audio, video, and other visual media).
- Excellent written communication skills and narrative development
- Excellent organisation skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines and prioritise work
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience of developing effective working relationships with a range of individuals
Desirable
- Demonstrable ability to innovate, develop and deliver public engagement content
- Experience or demonstratable interest in the natural and ecological sciences
- Interest in the public understanding and engagement with science
- Experience of writing webpages and blogs, and use of a content management system to update and maintain these
- Understanding and familiarity with social media
Qualifications
- Graduate (preferably with communications, digital production, or natural sciences as a core component) or two year’s equivalent previous work experience to demonstrate the person specification. – Essential
BENEFIT
1. Salary: £10.55 ph (London Living Wage). Totalling a maximum £2,437.05 for the internship duration.
2. Contract: Fixed term, flexible hours and days. Starting date flexible after August 12th2019, but internship completion must end after October 16th 2019.
3. Location: London – we are due to move offices in late July/early August and will be within easy walking distance of Angel and Old Street tube stations
