Unil awards around ten excellence scholarships each year, exclusively to students who have graduated from a foreign university and whose academic results are of a very high standard. The list of all master’s degrees at Unil, can be found here.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Hold a foreign university degree recognized as equivalent to a Swiss university bachelor before starting the Master’s programme at Unil.
• Have achieved outstanding academic results during your studies.
• Have a minimum language level of C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):
  • French for programmes taught in French
  • English for programmes taught in English
  • Check the programme page and the FAQ under “What language level is required for the chosen Master’s programme?”
• Not be currently enrolled at Unil.
• Have paid the administrative fee of CHF 200 (see section: application contents).

BENEFOTS

1. The Unil Master’s Scholarship is awarded for the minimum statutory period of the Master’s programme and amounts to CHF 1,600 per month.
2. Scholarship recipients are exempt from the standard course registration fees.

APPLICATION

Before submitting your application, please read all the information on this page (including the FAQ and the General conditions of the Master’s Scholarship).

1. Prepare your application file in the form of a single PDF (see section: application contents).
2. Online registration and submission of application:
   • Enter your application online.
   • Upload your PDF application file.
   • Deadline for online registration: November 1
   • Be aware: applications sent by e-mail and incomplete applications will not be considered.
3. Send letters of recommendation by e-mail:
   • Have two letters of recommendation sent by teachers familiar with the applicant’s past or present studies, or by an employer.
   • The letters must be sent directly by the author from a professional (not private) e-mail address to the following address: mastergrants@unil.ch.
   • Deadline: November 1
   • Be aware: only letters sent after online registration will be considered.
4. Send certified true copies of academic documents by post (if applicable)
   This step only concerns candidates whose diplomas were obtained in a State that has not ratified the Lisbon Convention (check your country here ).
   • Have the university or college certify and seal in an envelope :
     • university diplomas,
     • university transcripts,
     • provisional certificates of achievement (where applicable).
   • Send these documents to the following address:

TIMELINE

• 1 November: Application deadline.
• November to December: Processing of applications by SASME and the Admissions Office (SII)
• December to January: The SASME informs applicants whose application is incomplete or has not been accepted by the Admissions Office that their application for the scholarship has been unsuccessful.
• January to February: Complete applications are transferred to the faculties for consideration of their eligibility for the chosen master’s degrees.
• February to March: The SASME informs applicants whose application has not been accepted by the faculty.
• March: The Selection Board for the Master’s Scholarship selects the applicants who will receive scholarships.
• Early April: Applicants are notified of the Selection Board’s decision.
