2026 CJID Campus Reporter Editor Recruitment

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Campus Reporter Editor to provide editorial leadership for student journalists participating in its Next Gen Campus Reporter Project. This full-time role involves providing editorial support and mentorship to emerging campus journalists across Africa. The editor will be expected to edit stories from the campus journalists, uphold CJID’s editorial standards, and support the production of ethical, inclusive, and impactful journalism.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide editing support, helping student journalists improve structure, clarity, storytelling, and evidence-based reporting.
- Ensure all stories comply with CJID’s editorial standards, fact-checking requirements, and ethical guidelines.
- Work with reporters to refine story angles, strengthen sourcing, and improve accountability focus.
- Coordinate closely with assigned mentors and project officers to track story progress and deadlines.
- Assist in identifying strong stories for wider syndication or newsroom placement opportunities.
- Maintain an editorial calendar and contribute to monthly reporting on outputs and story performance.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in journalism editing, newsroom work, or media publishing.
- Strong editorial judgment and experience working with young or emerging reporters.
- Demonstrated ability to edit accountability, civic, investigative, or development-focused stories.
- Excellent command of the English language, grammar, and AP-style editing standards.
- Strong commitment to mentoring and supporting early-career journalists.
