2025 African Union Media Fellowship for African Journalists

African storytellers utilise various media to inform, educate and empower citizens; bridge knowledge gaps, and drive positive change. They facilitate information flow, public dialogue, and active participation, fostering a more democratic, inclusive, and empowered Africa. To ensure Africa is at the forefront of defining and telling its own narrative both on the continent and globally the Information and Communication Directorate (ICD) of the African Union (AU) launched the African Union Media Fellowship as a transformative platform designed to reshape how Africa is portrayed, providing a more accurate and nuanced representation of the continent’s progress, potential, and diversity.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The AU Media Fellowship is committed to a fair and merit-based selection process. It is open to all African journalists and content creators who meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicants must be citizens of an African Union member state.
  2. Media Professionals: Journalists, bloggers, podcasters, and digital creators, especially those with newsroom experience.
  3. Applicants must be 25 years old or above.
  4. Minimum of 6 years of work in media or content creation.
  5. Fluency in any AU official language. Working language is English.
  6. Demonstrated talent, innovation, and impact in media or digital content fields.
