2024 NGYouthSDGs Learning and Development Designer Recruitment

Deadline: July 14, 2024.

Do you want to ignite innovation to help youth transform the world? Do you believe in young people and grassroot organisations as visionary changemakers?

NGYouthSDGs is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Learning and Development Designer to develop a comprehensive learning toolkit and “train the trainer” resources for an exciting new project.

This initiative aims to build the capacity of young people and youth civil society organisations (CSOs) in Nigeria to actively contribute to the implementation of Nigeria’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). The project focuses on empowering youth CSOs, particularly those working directly with young people and young women who are significantly impacted by climate change and are often excluded from policy decision-making processes. By enhancing their participation, we aim to foster sustainable development in their communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand the specific learning needs of youth CSOs and the target audience.
  •  Design and develop a comprehensive learning toolkit that includes educational materials, activities, and resources tailored to the project’s objectives.
  • Create “train the trainer” resources to equip youth CSO leaders and trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively deliver the learning toolkit to their communities.
  • Conduct needs assessments and analyze existing training materials to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to pilot the learning toolkit and gather feedback for refinement.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to trainers during the implementation phase.
  • Develop evaluation metrics and tools to measure the impact of the training program and
    adjust resources as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Proven experience in developing learning toolkits and training resources, preferably in the context of youth empowerment and climate action.
  • Strong understanding of climate change, sustainable development, and related policies such as Nigeria’s NAP and NDC.
  • Experience working with youth and youth CSOs, particularly in developing countries.
  • Excellent facilitation and training skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organisations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in local Nigerian languages is an asset.

Desired

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, or a similar role.
  • Ability to assess training needs and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Innovative approach to designing engaging and impactful learning resources.
  • Understanding of and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

APPLICATION

Instead of a traditional cover letter, please share your CV and answer the question below in 1-2 A4 page:

You have been hired as a learning and development designer for a project aimed at developing a learning toolkit and a “train the trainer” resource for young people and youth CSOs. Additionally, you will support these groups in developing local adaptation plans.

  1. Describe your approach to creating a comprehensive learning toolkit and “train the trainer” program. What key components would you include, and how would you ensure that the content is relevant, engaging, and accessible to young people and youth CSOs?
  2. Outline a plan for delivering the “train the trainer” program. How would you structure the sessions, and what methods would you use to ensure that the trainers are well-prepared to educate and empower others in their communities?
  3. How would you measure the success and impact of the learning toolkit and training program?
  4. What metrics would you use, and how would you gather and analyze the data?

Please provide detailed responses to each part of the question, drawing on your past experiences and knowledge to illustrate your approach.
