2024 Carr Center Fellowship at Harvard Kennedy School

Applications for the Carr Center Fellowship are now open for 2024-2025. The Carr Center for Human Rights Policy serves as the hub of the Harvard Kennedy School’s research, teaching, and training in the human rights domain. The center embraces a dual mission: to educate students and the next generation of leaders from around the world in human rights policy and practice; and to convene and provide policy-relevant knowledge to international organizations, governments, policymakers, and businesses. 

The Center seeks to attract a diverse group of fellows from different disciplines and sectors (academia, business, technology, civil society, human rights organizations, public interest technologists, and independent researchers and practitioners) who would like to design and develop a research project salient to their own expertise and the research priorities of the Center focused on human rights. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  1. Fellows can be post-docs, scholars, academics on sabbatical, human rights defenders, senior leaders in international organizations, or heads of human rights organizations.
  2. Fellow projects should align closely with the research and programming priorities of the Center. 
  3. They welcome both emerging and established scholars and practitioners whose research and practice are aligned with the Center’s priorities.
  4. Fellows can focus on research and writing, auditing classes, meeting faculty and other experts, leading study groups for students, and participating in other learning opportunities at the Harvard Kennedy School. 

APPLICATION

The application will require the following elements:

1.) Resume/CV 

2.) Research proposal (including how it fits with the Carr Center’s research and programmatic priorities and specific faculty) and your qualifications (up to 3 pages) 

3.) Executive summary of proposal (up to 200 words) 

4.) Two references from individuals who can comment on your ability to complete the proposed research (Please ask your references to submit these directly by the deadline to carr_center@hks.harvard.edu with the subject line “Carr Center Fellowship Application [First Name, Last Name]” 

5.) Relevant writing sample (up to 10 pages) 

6.) A list of prior publications or comparable professional deliverable (with links or up to 3 attachments)
