2024 14TH ASEF Journalists Seminar (ASEFJS): Call for Application (Fully Funded)

Since its inception in 1998, the ASEF Journalists Seminar (ASEFJS) has been cultivating media representatives from Asia and Europe and involving them in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Process and ASEF’s activities. The Seminar promotes media networks across Asia and Europe, and contributes to the understanding of Asia-Europe relations among journalists and enhancement of their reporting and communication capacities. The ASEFJS organised biennially, offers an opportunity for journalists and media professionals from Asia and Europe to come together for informal closed-door sharing of experiences and discussion of their work on important issues of common concern.

The ASEFJS supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which seeks to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.”  Target 16.10 aims to “ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements”.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE

The topics covered include the following:

  • AI’s impact on journalism workflow and productivity (newsroom backend) and on shaping media business models and journalism economics.
  • Using AI for audience analytics and content personalisation (newsroom backend)
  • AI for automating routine news updates and stories (frontend)
  • Detecting misinformation and disinformation with AI (frontend)
  • Developing guidelines and best practices for AI use in journalism (both ends)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants should be:

  • Journalist with at least two years of experience
  • Under 35 years of age
  • Proficient in English
  • In good health
  • Prepared to participate actively in the seminar.

BENEFITS

ASEF and Danube Institute will bear the following expenses for successful applicants, thereafter, known as “participants”, during the seminar in Hungary:

  • Seminar fees, including lecture fees, administrative fees and course materials.
  • Accommodation for the duration of the course.
  • Return airfare from home country to Hungary.

Participants are strongly advised to purchase their own comprehensive travel insurance, which includes adequate coverage of COVID-19 related expenses and medical evacuation in the event of any unexpected emergencies.
