2022 CRIMSL Research Cluster for the Study of Racism and Inequality Research Fellowship

Deadline: February 4, 2022.

The CRIMSL Research Cluster for the Study of Racism and Inequality invites applications for a Research Fellowship for one PhD student for the period of March 1 to August 31, 2022. The Fellow will conduct research on behalf of the cluster that will lead to the development of a clearing house of information on institutional initiatives that have been implemented to address the nature of racial and structural inequality in a range of social institutions, including but not limited the criminal justice system, housing, welfare and social assistance, education, and health care. In this regard, the Fellow will start by documenting the ways that higher education institutions in particular, i.e., universities in Canada and beyond, have taken steps to address inequality in knowledge production, representation and diversity. Following this, the research focus may shift to other major institutions outside the educational sector.

RESPONSIBILITY

  1. The Fellow will collect both quantitative and qualitative data that ultimately will help other researchers understand what kinds of model programs exist at different institutions; how these various programs approach problems of systemic racism and inequality; and how the apparent successes of these programs’ templates may be measured and evaluated.
  2. The Fellow will have the opportunity to present their findings at one of the Cluster’s monthly works in progress workshops, and also to publish at least one sole or first authored peer reviewed article related to these findings if they wish to do so.
  3. The database will be made available on the cluster website for all current and future graduate students, and may also benefit other visiting fellows, faculty, and various other CRIMSL affiliates.
  4. The Fellow will also help to create infrastructure that will allow the database to be updated on an annual basis once it has been established.
