2022 Alex-Trebek Postdoctoral Fellowship-AI and Environment

The IA + Society Initiative is looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Alex-Trebek Postdoctoral Fellow to lead an innovative research program focused on the social science aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) ) applied to environmental sustainability.
The postdoctoral fellow will join the vibrant research community of the IA + Society Initiative at the University of Ottawa and the IA for Healthy Humans and Healthy Environments Project of the Alex-Trebek Forum for Dialogue .
The University of Ottawa has positioned itself as a leader in transdisciplinary research and training for responsible AI for the benefit of Canada and the world. The IA + Society Initiative is leading a research program for a better understanding and better framing of the ethical, legal and societal implications of AI research and its uses, as well as to take advantage of a transdisciplinary approach for the benefit of progress. AI methods and tools, with an emphasis on their responsible applications.
REQUIREMENTS
- Doctorate in sociology or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a PhD within the last five years, but all applications will be considered.
- Research experience, preferably on projects related to AI and big data.
- English proficiency.
In addition, the following skills will be considered as assets:
- Bilingualism (English and French).
- Scientific contributions on relevant topics.
- Experience in knowledge mobilization.
- Experience with STS concepts and commitments.
Workplace and COVID-19: they are currently working on a hybrid model, but plan to resume in-person activities in the fall of 2022. They understand that each person’s circumstances are unique and we will work with the successful candidate to explore the best working conditions for her.
SALARY
Base annual salary: $ 45,000 plus fringe benefits
