As a key member of our People team, the People advisor supports the ACU to sustain high performing and engaged teams which directly impacts on the success of the ACU.

The People Advisor will work in collaboration with the People and Facilities team to deliver and continually develop excellent operational HR services and to build strong relationships with colleagues across the organisation.

The People Advisor will take ownership of the entire employee life cycle, providing a high level of first line human resources advisory service to colleagues, including managing recruitment, learning and development and managing the administration of the payroll working closely with the Finance team, and providing advice on best practice and the application of the ACU’s employment policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Managing the day to day operational HR services for the organisation, including helping to ensure the most appropriate and streamlined processes are in place.
  • Coordinating and advising on the end-to-end recruitment and selection process, from advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, to pre-employment checks and inductions.

  • Managing the HR Information System, being the superuser, liaising with the service provider on issues as they arise, and ensuring that data is continuously up to date, accurate and in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Processing the requirements for the monthly payroll to ensure staff are paid correctly, this includes working with the external Payroll vendor, seeking to resolve enquiries and issues, producing employment documentation and processing the annual salary review process.
  • Supporting the implementation of learning and development activities, including organising learning and development courses and events, facilitating the running and development of the induction process and advising staff and managers of options for external training.
  • Acting as HR partner to selected teams

REQUIREMENT

  1. CIPD qualification, or working towards a Human Resources qualification.

  2. Substantial HR experience, with knowledge across the full generalist remit, gravitas with the experience of working directly with various stakeholders to provide timely and accurate advice and guidance.
  1. Experience of using HR information systems, including as a Super-user.
  1. Ability to produce HR metrics and reports.
  1. Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in writing and orally, with experience of minute-taking and the ability to set out guidance in a way that is clear and appropriate to the audience.
  1. Ability to build effective and collaborative working relationships within the People team as well as the wider ACU.
  1. A self-starter, with sound administrative, organisational, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities under pressure and work independently in order to provide a timely service and meet deadlines.

  2. Experience of supporting the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidance.
     
  3. Good knowledge of UK employment legislation and its practical application.
  1. High level of proven competence of Microsoft Office Suite and digital tools such as MS Teams.
  2. Ability to work with absolute confidentiality and discretion.
  3. Excellent attention to detail.
