SDG Coordinators support SDSN Youth’s mandate by working in SDSN member universities around the world to mobilize students around the SDGs.

With the introduction of the new SDG Students Program, the SDG Coordinators will work with local SDSN networks to ensure that all students in their university/campus are aware of the SDGs, understand their importance to the wider community and have opportunities to take action towards their implementation during their studies, and after they graduate.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• A) Setup an SDG Student Hub* on campus and use it as a platform to build a community of students interested in taking action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 
• B) Manage the core operations of this SDG Student Hub through several processes, including: 

  1. Recruit – Promote the SDG Student Hub to fellow students, encouraging them to join the community and help facilitate their membership. 

  2. Engage– Share regular updates and interesting information with the hub, including news, opportunities, events, facts & figures, questionnaires, and shout outs.  

  3. Meet – Organize regular meetings with the hub community to discuss, plan and allocate responsibilities for actioning the core functions of the hub – (1) education, and (2) solutions. 

  4. Socialize – Arrange casual community gatherings and informal networking events to promote a sense of community and social ties between members. 

• C) Facilitate and support the SDG Student Hub to deliver on its 2 core functions: 

  1.    Education – Working with the hub to engage with the leadership, senior faculty members and teaching staff of the university to promote the integration of SDGs into student orientation processes, extra-curricular activities, core syllabus, and other areas of learning and teaching.

  2.    Solutions – Working with the hub to organize solutions events, where the community can come together in small groups to discuss the country’s performance on SDGs, identify key gaps in implementation and generate ideas for accelerating local and national progress. 

  *SDG Student Hubs can co-exist alongside existing student societies and are meant as platforms to bring students together in a single space. More information will be provided if you are selected.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Primary Criteria

At the time of applying for this role:

• Candidate MUST have a great interest in sustainable development, be passionate about the mission of the SDSN, including the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
• Candidate MUST be based (physically) at the institution/university they are seeking to represent – either as a ‘current’ student or employee.
• Candidate MUST have at least 12 months remaining until they finish their work/study at the institution/university they seek to represent – candidates changing universities or undertaking exchange at another institution will NOT qualify for this role.
• Candidate MUST possess an excellent command of the English language.
• Candidate MUST demonstrate that they have the time and resources to commit to this role – candidates with too many overlapping commitments will be exempt.
• Candidate MUST have some professional or volunteer work experience, particularly with campaigning, community mobilization, project coordination, event management or stakeholder engagement.
• Candidate MUST be able to commit at least between 10 hours per week for this role.
• Candidate MUST be aged between 18-30 in order to be eligible for this role.

At the time of applying for this role:

• COMMITMENT – Candidate SHOULD be able to demonstrate that they are committed to the vision of the Network and capable of working in compliance with the norms, and standards set by SDSN Youth and local Networks.
• PUBLIC SPEAKING – Candidate SHOULD be a confident and passionate speaker, capable of communicating well with stakeholders and partners.
• DISCIPLINE – Candidate SHOULD be incredibly well disciplined and have excellent organizational and management skills.
• FLEXIBILITY – Candidate SHOULD be flexible and capable of working with multiple deadlines and coordinate activities with multiple time zones – this may include late-night calls and meetings.
• VERSATILITY – Candidate SHOULD be versatile, especially in dealing with the challenges posed by a newly formed, constantly changing and rapidly expanding the organization.
• TEAMWORK – Candidate SHOULD have excellent teamwork skills and capable of working with groups of volunteers and team members effectively.
