2019 Canon Collins Masters Scholarship in the UK

Canon Collins Trust believes that higher education is empowering for individuals and transformative for society. Southern Africa’s development depends on strong leadership in key fields, which is why we have supported over 3,000 individuals through their studies since 1981. Research and knowledge are crucial tools for addressing some of the most pressing issues in contemporary southern African society, therefore we focus our scholarship provision on enabling access to postgraduate and doctoral studies.

Canon Collins Trust offers scholarships to support taught masters degree programmes at certain UK universities.

 

School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London
We partner with SOAS to co-fund one scholarship annually. Applicants must:

  • Be a national of, and normally resident in one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  • Be in possession of a good Honours degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application.
  • Be applying for a full-time one-year taught masters course in any subject.
  • Have at least 2 years work experience in a relevant field.

 

University of Sussex
We partner with the Mandela Scholarship Fund at the University of Sussex to co-fund two awards annually. Applicants must:

  • Be a national of, and normally resident in one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  • Be in possession of a good Honours degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application.
  • Be applying for a full-time one-year taught masters course in any subject.
  • Have at least 2 years work experience in a relevant field.

 

ELIGIBILITY

They invite applications for scholarships to support taught Master’s degree programmes at the universities listed above.

Applicants for any of these awards must:

1. Be a national of, and normally resident in, one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana,Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe
2. Be in possession of a good Honours degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application
3.  Have at least 2 years work experience in a relevant field.

 

SCHOLARSHIP

 

All these scholarships cover full tuition fees, a monthly stipend, a return economy flight, a settling-in allowance and other support whilst in the UK.

 

APPLICATION

 

The online application form is of primary importance as it serves as the basis for assessment.
The online application form can be found on the Canon Collins Trust website, when the call for applications is open. You will find full instructions online when you start a new form.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is complete and accurate before submitting your application online.
All sections of the form need to be complete before the system will allow the application form to be submitted. Information can be saved and the application form edited until the applicant chooses to submit. All applicants are required to submit the following supporting documentation:
1. Certified copy of undergraduate degree certificate, if available
2. Certified academic transcripts
3. Reference letters from two referees
4.  ID document (The following are acceptable: Passport, Birth Certificate, Driver’s License)
5. Proof of refugee status, if applicable
